The Power of Allowing ~ Why Chasing Your Dreams Keeps Them Away

allowing vs chasing your goal

Feel the energy in chasing.

Doesn’t it feel like trying, uneasiness, effort, or hard to get? It’s like a toddler scurrying away, not wanting to give back something she’s not supposed to put into her mouth.

Now, connect with the energy of allowing.

How does it feel? More like trust, relaxation, and willingness? Yes! It prompts you to create space for your dream to unfold naturally at its own divine pace and timing.

How Chasing Can Push Your Dreams Away

When you’re chasing something you really want and want it badly, your energy is that of lack.

You lack your dream, and the Universe must mirror your lack. Things tend to get more complicated. Trying hard usually leads to burnout, anxiety, or even depression. These emotions can block you from your own intuitive nudges to take inspired action and let your dream come to you more easily.

I dare say you would prefer to take joyful, happy action instead of one that feels like a should, rushed or uninspired.

There is a saying in Spanish:

The rhyme makes it sticky: El camino es el destino.

It’s said to reference “El Camino de Santiago,” a path in northern Spain where the journey itself is considered a spiritual experience.

It also means that life is all about the process, the steps you take toward achieving your goals. But most importantly, if you take joy-filled steps, and relish what you do, the Universe must mirror that too. And since you’re loving each step, then it’s of little consequence if you’ve arrived or not.

The paradox is that the less you care about “arriving there,” the more the Universe will “get you there.”

This is how you allow your dream to come to you joyfully and effortlessly.

Allow Yourself To Have Instead of Chase

And since you’re allowing each step to unfold naturally and easily, you might as well allow yourself to have your dream now, too.

Can you see that when you’re chasing something, you’re not having it?

You don’t chase something you already have.

When you chase goals, they will tend to scurry away. And even if you accomplish a goal, the chasing may never end.

So have it instead. Let go of wanting to chase it. Just have it. The more you have it in consciousness, the more likely you are to manifest it quickly. All creations are created in consciousness first.

  • Decide to allow it and have it now!

Learning Through Experience

Looking back at my life of 50+ years-young, I can quickly glean I’ve been happiest when I’ve been doing what I love to do—and allowing what comes back as a result. It always felt delightful and fulfilling and even surprising at times.

When I deviated from it, thinking I had to be “smart” about the goals I needed to pursue chase, I ended up moody and sad. (My dear husband can attest to that.) This happened when I thought I wanted to delve into cybersecurity, for example. Yes, securing businesses’ cyber assets is a grand mission, but no matter how grand, it isn’t if it isn’t your thing. You don’t even realize your heart is dimming its light until you start seeing shadows all around you.

But things fall into place quickly when I’m engaged in doing what I love and loving what I do. This happened when I started homeschooling my son somewhat reluctantly. I still decided to keep an open mind and learn all I could about homeschooling (when homeschooling wasn’t cool). I fell in love with it in no time, and things started flowing like a lazy river in a water park.

You can feel the energy moving in the right direction (the direction that feels right to you). There’s no chasing involved—no struggling to go after anything—just allowing things to take their course.

Has it ever happened to you that suddenly, you realize you’re living your dream?

Food for the heart

Pay attention to the things in your life you love. Notice how everything is unfolding in a beautiful, happy way.

Practice Having Not Chasing Your Goal

Each time you’re aware of your feeling of lack, wanting your dream badly, chasing it, and feeling you have more to do to make it happen. Stop.

Pause.

Take a breath.

Decide to let the feeling of lack go. Just the feeling, not the dream. Let it go and have your dream instead. And from that position of completeness, take action toward your dream.
